Welcome to Ottawa2024.au!
On behalf of the local conference organizing committee, our partners and sponsors, I am delighted to invite you to join us in Melbourne from 24 – 28 February 2024 for Ottawa2024.au!
Yes! The Ottawa Conference is coming “Down Under” to Australia for its third visit. With previous conferences in 2008 in Melbourne (fondly known as Ozzawa) followed by Perth in 2016, we are delighted to be welcoming back old friends and extending this welcome to new ones too.
If you are involved in assessment of health practitioners, we would love you to join us in Melbourne. The ways that you are involved in assessment may be diverse and possibly include the following:
- Assessment from a policy, research and practice perspective.
- Assessment at any stage of the learning journey – from student selection to practitioner CPD.
- Assessment using any modality and for any domain of practice.
The theme for Ottawa2024 will be “Assessment: Near and Far”. This theme reflects some of the major challenges for assessment in health professional education into the future and will, we hope, inspire you to participate.
One of those key challenges will include where we assess – is it in remote and rural contexts with their own particular challenges and how near or far will the assessment occur in proximity to the patient and clinical practice? Perhaps one of the greatest challenges to assessment ever – how authentic can it be and how can we use it to reassure the public that we are preparing safe, caring and competent practitioners?
The “Near and Far” theme encompasses the current debates around modality of assessment – what can be and should be assessed online versus what should be assessed in person?
We’re hoping the theme also conveys our support for and interest in promoting significant international collaborations – whether through activities such as the international consensus statements movement (from 2010 onwards) or through partnerships in policy, practice and research – established and emerging.
And we plan to remain true to the original conference aims of encouraging assessment developments that will assist with improving healthcare around the world – near and far. Come and help us to achieve this goal one assessment at a time.
If we haven’t convinced you and invigorated your academic interest with the Ottawa programme, then perhaps we can sway you with the additional attractions of a conference in Australia in our beautiful summer-time! It is true that the expression ‘4 seasons in one day’ originated to describe Melbourne’s forever changing weather. But, as the locals say …..
“If you don’t like the weather in Melbourne – don’t worry – wait 10 minutes and it will change”
We look forward to welcoming you to Ottawa2024.au / Ozzawa 2.0!
