Ottawa 24 (or Ozzawa24 as we like to call it locally) is almost upon us. In a very short time, we will be welcoming delegates to Naarm (the traditional name for Melbourne) to join the dialogue about the assessment of clinical competence from 24 – 28 February 2024.
If you haven’t yet registered, there is still time to do so. Please review the topics and activities available in the full programme and arrange to join us in Melbourne.
If you are already registered, please take the chance to prepare your time at the conference. Look around all the resources available on this website to help you to plan your conference experience and orientate yourself to the opportunities on offer.
The pre-conference workshops have 800 unique ‘person attendances’ by a third of all delegates for some (or all) of the weekend of 24 and 25 February. We are delighted to see you signing up for places at these workshops and taking a deep dive into a broad range of topics in assessment. We have some limited spaces left at the workshops so please review what is available. To help you to decide, some of the facilitators have created videos to discuss their topics and entice you to attend. You can review these in our video hub here.
You can also access brief videos in the video hub that introduce you to keynote speakers, workshop facilitators and a range of people who have been involved /behind the scenes to help make Ozzawa what it is – a truly exciting and contemporary conversation about clinical competence!
The Local Organising Group for Ozzawa24 have been passionate about providing mentoring and support for newer and emerging members of our profession. As an example, you can meet members of our student task force featured on the website here. This group are the health professional educators and academics of the future. They represent a range of health professions including pharmacy, nursing, physiotherapy, medicine, medical imaging, and social work. Help them to learn more about assessment for health professionals as they help you to navigate the conference programme and venue!
The debates at Ozzawa24 are looking exciting. Amongst other ‘hot topics’ you can expect to engage with the following key issues:
- What advances have we made in the implementation of programmatic assessment approaches? Has the theory been borne out in practice? Have there been unintended consequences for various groups and what do we need to adapt and learn from?
- What role is and should technology be playing in best-practice assessments? This includes (but isn’t limited to) the role of Artificial Intelligence in poor and excellent assessment, design, delivery, and management.
- Where are we up to with assessment in the post-pandemic era? What have we had to do to get through? Have we got into any bad habits along that way that need to be revisited and, potentially redressed? Have we learned positive lessons that need to be promulgated? What gaps are there in the evidence base in this new world that we need to be testing and challenging for the future of assessment, wherever in the world it is used and for whomever it is designed?
As a delegate, we look forward to you contributing to these important topics and questions. We look forward to the breadth of geographical, health professional and stakeholder difference that you will bring. Please come in anticipation of joining the conversation and sharing your experience. Please expect to engage broadly and to make friends and forge strong professional relationships that will guide your practice into the future.
Finally, we want you to know where you are in the world whilst attending Ozzawa24. Many of you are travelling huge distances. This won’t be an experience that you can have in any exhibition centre anywhere in the world. Please also take time to engage with Australia and take-home impressions of the place and the people that I am pleased and humbled to share and be able to call home.
